Boards a little soiled, shelf wear to top and bottom of spine & corners, light foxing and browning to flyleaves, light tanning throughout, small tear in ppVII & 201. With a home-made melinex and cardboard cover. Despite everything this is a very nice copy. |

The Ancient Music of Ireland dedicated by permission to Her Majesty The Queen 1st edition, Dublin 1840. Arranged for the piano forte. To which is prefixed a Dissertation on the Irish Harp and Harpers, including an account of the Old Melodies (150) of Ireland. 100 + xi + 109pp, small line drawings and vignettes in b/w. Hardback, half green leather & gilt. Corners bumped & leather worn and scuffed in places. Italian end papers; front end papers detached, light foxing throughout. Contents good and clean. After publishing a first volume (1798) and a second volume (1809) Bunting issued his third collection of The Ancient Music of Ireland in 1840. With this final volume Bunting hoped to promote the antiquity not only of the Irish music he had collected, but also of the Irish harp. He also wished to provide "the remaining airs of the collection arranged in true harp style." |
